Planting a Legacy: A Time Capsule to Celebrate an Exciting New Chapter for Rosherville Academy.
Rosherville Academy community is thrilled to announce a significant milestone in its history with the groundbreaking ceremony for its new location at the Cable Wharf Development in Gravesend. This memorable event occurred on the 26th of September, 2024, signalling the beginning of a new era for the school and its pupils.
The relocation of Rosherville Academy to the state-of-the-art Cable Wharf Development represents a transformative leap forward in educational facilities. The new site promises enhanced learning environments, modern classrooms, and expanded recreational areas to foster a supportive and innovative educational experience.
“We are incredibly excited about this new chapter for Rosherville,” said Justine Roddan, current Headteacher at Rosherville Church of England Academy. “The move to the Cable Wharf Development, along with the introduction of our new nursery and specially resourced provision, reflects our commitment to providing the best possible learning environment for our students and embodies the community’s dedication to supporting excellence in education for all.”
This event marks the beginning of a new era for the school, with pupils, staff and governors having the unique opportunity to become part of its legacy by burying a time capsule filled with cherished items. Items such as the original school uniform, significant photographs from the school’s history, and cards written by the pupils expressing their dreams and aspirations were placed inside the capsule.
The ceremony, held on Cable Wharf’s construction site, was an exciting and educational day for the pupils, who were thrilled to participate in creating a time capsule, sealing their memories for future generations to discover.
Adrian Broadway, Senior Project Manager at Morgan Sindall, spoke to the pupils about the exciting new site and the school’s future. Adrian shared insights into the innovative features of the new school building, designed to create a dynamic and forward-thinking learning environment. The students eagerly listened to the plans, which promised to meaningfully shape their future educational experience.
“Today’s ceremony isn’t just about breaking ground on a new building – it’s about planting the seeds for the future of this incredible community,” said Adrian. “I’m proud to be part of this transformation and excited for the opportunities this development will bring to our students.”
To commemorate the occasion, pupils had the chance to pose for photos inside the construction site alongside a digger, shovels in hand, adding to the day’s excitement. These moments will be captured and shared with the community as a reminder of the school’s bright future.
A special highlight of the event was the generous gift from Morgan Sindall, who kindly gave the pupils a tree to plant. The students will nurture and care for the tree on the current site, symbolising growth and continuity. Once the new school opens, the tree will be transferred to its permanent home, serving as a living reminder of the school’s journey.
“We are deeply grateful to Morgan Sindall for their thoughtful gift,” said Steve Carey, CEO of Aletheia Academies Trust. “This tree represents our school’s growth, resilience, and the bright future ahead.”
