Rosherville had lots of fun on world book day. Everyone dressed up and showed their love of books and characters. Many classes tuned in to the BBC live lesson and explored the love of books. Here are some examples of other activities that took place throughout the day.
Year 2 and 3 listened to the story of Peter Rabbit and retold the story through drams. They created freeze frames thinking about showing the action and feelings without words.
Year 5 enjoyed a creative literacy activity inspired by MC Grammar’s rap version of Goldilocks and the Three Bears. After listening to the performance, the children were challenged to continue the story by writing their own rap.
To help them develop their ideas, the class explored some story-writing tips from Onjali Rauf. Working in groups, the pupils had to include an additional hero, incorporate key story elements and build their narrative creatively.
Each group then created a “story banquet” of ideas, carefully selecting the ingredients needed for a great story before turning their work into a rap performance. The activity was challenging but lots of fun, and the children loved performing their imaginative and rhythmic story continuations to the class.
